7.5.18 - Judge Daniel J. Buckley approved a leadership structure for the 51 firms representing about 2,000 plaintiffs affected by the Thomas Fire, which burned a state record 281,893 acres in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties in December 2017, and may have triggered the ensuing Montecito Mudslides in January 2018. Alan J. Jang of Jang & Associates was appointed as liaison counsel for the subrogation plaintiffs.  The Ventura County Star covered the results of the hearing here.

7.3.18 - $47.5 MILLION SETTLEMENT FOR INJURED CHILD - A $47.5 million pre-trial settlement has been reached with San Mateo County, The Davey Tree Expert Company, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E) and Western Environmental Consultants, Inc. in a catastrophic tree fall case. This record breaking settlement arose out of a rotten 72 foot Tanoak tree which fell on our client’s tent as he was sleeping in a campsite at the San Mateo County Memorial Park. Our client, Zachary R., was 12 years old at the time of this accident and suffered catastrophic injuries to his pelvis, including an amputation of his right leg.

Managing Partner, Alan Jang, acted as co-counsel to Timothy G. Tietjen of Rouda, Feder, Tietjen & McGuinn, to help bring the suit against San Mateo County, alleging a dangerous condition of public property, and negligence by Davey, which the county had hired in 2007 to inspect its campsites for hazardous trees. The team also sued PG&E and its vegetation management contractor, WECI, for negligence in failing to maintain and inspect the area around its power lines. 6.6.18 - Alan Jang met with members of the California Asian & Pacific Islander (API) Legislative Caucus regarding proposals to change the law pertaining to Inverse Condemnation, public policy matters, and the Public Utilities Commission’s series of Decisions affecting private utilities’ potential to pass damages liability to ratepayers.
